Costume Designs for the Consistory Degrees
Hospitalers, Preceptor of the Templars, Grand Master Teutonic Knights
In the degrees presented in the Consistory, knighthood was a common theme. Knights from the Teutonic, Templar, and Hospitalers orders represented qualities of humility, temperance, chastity, generosity, and honor in their ritual. Tripp’s costumes for these degrees featured Teutonic crosses, armor, and swords with scabbards—all elements of dress that Tripp saw described in writings about orders of knighthood.
