Costume Designs for the Consistory Degrees
Orator and Grand Pontiff
Some characters in the Consistory Degrees were modeled after members of the Christian clergy, including a deacon, a cardinal, and a grand pontiff. The vestments, mitre, and other elements of these characters' dress are taken from paintings and descriptions of English clothing and culture from the book, A Complete View of Dress and Habits of the People of England, published in 1862.
