Joseph Boggs Beale, Beale Collection of Terry and Deborah Borton

Joseph Boggs Beale (1841-1926) was one of the most prolific lantern slide illustrators of his time. The C.W. Briggs Company employed Beale in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Masonic and fraternal societies utilized the lecture story sets and biblical story illustrations created by Beale. These sets included a wide array of different types of slides, including panoramic, dissolving, and motto slides, the latter of which were slides with wording, most often related to the presentation of the show or lecture.
